Early on in his career he taught at UC Berkeley and worked with Ken Thompson on Unix developments. Austin in has developed precise frequency control and digital phase locked loop designs, for high speed data transmission applications.

Austin's talk was very informative and interesting. He presented very technical material in a clear, easy to understand way. This led to some good discussions.
