So with Knoppix 4.01 as orginally configured, the AC97 output won't work. By configuring ALSA I can get input via the Delta44 to work, or output via the AC97 to work [by messing with alsaconfig], but haven't gotten both to work at the same time.
Messing with ALSA has boogered up the system pretty thoroughly, so I am going to have to wipe my 'saved' files for Knoppix 4.01 and start over...but not tonight ;)
