kmix is not good enough to control the via82xx.
you need the alsamixer(gui) or gamix programme if you use alsa.
if you do not use alsa you should as my experience is that the kernel driver
via82cxxx_audio is not working well.
pcm is the output from linrad or from a wav file etc
