[linrad] Re: SATA Drive issues with Debian, Knoppix security

Hi Roger.

Many strange things out there! Well, if you have free time, fill a bug
report at the debian-installer web page. They will try to fix it before
the release. I guess that the problem is that installer does not detect
your SATA disks properly. It is curious that you can partition the SATA
drive, but after that you can not use it ?¿?¿?.

Change /etc/apt/sources.list to point sarge, then do a apt-get
dist-upgrade from woody in order to get a true "sarge" install.

Do not forget to add the package module-init-tools, 2.6 kernels need it
for loading modules.

Sorry, I have not got more clues, without having the machine here.

Only one last thing for the brave men! Try the Debian From Scratch live
CD. You can boot from it and install debian base system "from scratch",
something like Gentoo installer. It is also a very good rescue CD. You
have to do everything manually, partition the drives manually, load the
modules manually, but perhaps it can be the solution for your problem.

Tell us your results.
