Linrad can be set up to operate remotely. Leif configured it to do this
in early 2003, in version 00-55.
To use it this way you need to be running Linrad at the remote site, and
connected to the receiver.
You then ALSO run Linrad on another computer at the other end of the
network, and you can listen and operate the Linrad program there as though
you were receiving the signals directly.
I tried this before I got all of the Linrad Hardware hooked up [I think it
was nearly 2 years ago], and so I don't know if the WSE hardware switching
[for changing band segments,etc] works from the computer at the other end
of the network from the hardware. I would think that it doesn't, but I
haven't tried this and probably won't try it anytime soon due to time
constraints. But Leif knows and will comment I am sure, and I DO know
that receiving at the other end of the network works fine. At the time I
measured and recorded the actual NETWORK bandwidth requirements using some
Linux utilities designed for that purpose, but I have lost the results...

Also, why not use a network connection to get the data from a receiver
into software? I was thinking of using a network card and a micro to
drive it. You could have the receiver remote from the PC, connected by
CAT5 cable. Also the Rx could be streamed on the net.

Data rates would probably be higher than with USB - in theory USB rates
are high but with many so called USB2 compliant devices it is apparently
quite difficult to raelize the theoretically possible rate.
