Subject: [linrad] Linrad-01.35: Easier installation of soundcards with a
modified setad.c module.

Hi all,

The set up of soundcards with Linrad-01.35 ( option U in the main menu )
can
be been made easier if one uses a modified ( more verbose ) version of the
setad.c module.

Following functionalities have been added in this modified setad.c module:

1. If there is enough space on the screen ( vgamode 12 or 13 required ) ,
the
right half of the screen is used to display information about the current
status of the sound-driver.

This allows the user to see the link that has been made by the sound-driver
between the physical soundboard and the different /dev/dsp* numbers , and
help him to select the correct device for Linrad.

It has been designed to work with ALSA and OSS/Linux

2.Additional information is written to the soundboard_init.log file:
-Information about the status of the current sound-driver and its configured
soundboards ( same information as in 1)
-Information about the current settings of the first two mixers .

This allows a user who can not use vgamodes 12 or 13 to use the log file to
find the same information as in 1.
It also has has the benefit that the soundboard_init.log file now contains
more information about possible set-up problems and can be used as a more
efficient tool for information exchange and assistance between Linrad users.

The modified setad.c module routine has been developed and tested on a SUSE
9.2 Linux distro, with Alsa 1.07 and OSS3992.

I will mail this modified setad.c module on request to any interested
Linrad
user.

Have fun with Linrad :-)

Pierre / ON5GN
