Hi Richard,

If you use tar balls to blat over a stable system that uses RPM ,and has all the svgalib packages
available as RPMs its asking for trouble.

Why is that? The RPM does not do its job properly, I would not think the RPM is put together by the svgalib people. By the way, what is the version number of svgalib in the RPM you have?
libsvgalib1-1.9.21-1mdk, libsvgalib1-devel-1.9.21-1mdk, svgalib1-1.9.21-1mdk
I'll find out who the packager is for Mandriva

I spend a lot of my time sorting out systems were someone has blatted a tar ball over the top of a RPM data base, which then loses all its info on updates, the dependency tables are then corrupted.

You might have to correct the mistake of trying to use RPM for svgalib
by removing svgalib using your RPM tools. This is just to prevent
the RPM tools from trying to make an update in case you do something
like "update all".

Mandriva make use extensively of URPMI, if you urpmi <package> it will not only go and get the package but install all its dependencies.

Maybe, and in Debian it is "apt-get install <package>" and who knows
what under Fedora, Puppy, ........

Linrad is still a single man project. I can not learn the special
tools of every distribution and supply a lot of different packages.
It is the same for Matan who makes svgalib.
I'm very aware of that Leif

I've tried many times to get linrad to run, and the only conclusion I come to each time is ,one computer for linrad and another for everything else.

Mandrake has always been the easiest to install. I can not imagine
Mandriva would be a problem.
I think it s become a problem due to its habit of supplying the newest packages

You have done such good work with linrad Leif, its such a shame to the platforms it can run on diminish.
As a temp fix mknod statements can be added to rc.local, but really it needs attention paid to the way the hotplug daemons behave.

Why is that? I am pretty sure the fix already present in Linrad
will work under Mandriva. Download is very slow, maybe I know
on tuesday:-)

OK

By the way, the fix is a file in rc1.d, rc2.d, ....
I use the same fix for installing the appropriate module for SDR-14 although I do not yet have the source code for the
ft245 driver under Linux-2.6.xx kernels so I can only
use the SDR-14 hardware under 2.4.xx kernels.
