[linrad] 96000 Hz pulse noise files for Linrad and Winrad

Hello, All

I made some 96000 Hz wave files Sunday. Sunday I had a loud [S9] pulse noise centered at 119 degrees, which is in the exact direction of the W3CCX beacon, which is what I use as my 'strong signal' for testing.

The files were made using the WSE [Linrad] hardware feeding a Delta44 and running Cool96 at 96000 Hz sampling rate to record.

I put a zip file on the web named w3sznoise-3-12-06.zip that contains a couple of the files that were created, along with some support files. You can download this by clicking on that filename from:
http://home.comcast.net/~w3sz/index.html
or by going to http://www.nitehawk.com/w3sz/w3sznoise-3-12-06.zip
directly.

I have downloaded and tested the zip file to make sure that the downloaded files are not corrupted.

First I will list the files in that zip file and then give more explanation.

Here is what they are:

adwave just my adwave file for linrad for windows, listed to give an example only. You need to create an adwave file with the complete paths of the wave files you wish to listen to using Linrad, and place the adwave file in the Linrad directory. This is a text file, but just named 'adwave', not 'adwave.txt'.

These are my calibration files for the single channel mode of Linrad, running at 96000 Hz sampling rate, 16 bits, in I/Q mode. You need to put them in the Linrad directory to get the full advantage of Linrad's 'smart' noise blanker. And of course you need to set Linrad up in this mode to run these files. [This is done by selecting 'U' to set up the A/D and D/A parameters].

PS You want to answer 'yes' to linrad's 3 'Y/N' questions after you type 4 to do adwave files and select the mode [I suggest 'D SSB' to play around and see what the noise blankers to; I would use SSB mode for both Linrad and Winrad to appreciate the full effect of the noiseblankers in each program].

ft1000w3ccxandnoise50-3-11-a-nbandnar2and240apf.wav This is the audio output from my FT1000 MP using its noise blanker and DSP 240 Hz CW filter, with it getting the same RF signal that the WSE Linrad hardware got to generate the 50-3-11a file. So you can compare the output of your 'best shot' with Linrad and Winrad to what the old technology does by comparing this audio to what you get when you run w3ccxandnoise50-3-11a.wav thru Linrad or Winrad. THIS IS NOT A FILE TO BE PLAYED BACK THRU LINRAD OR WINRAD.

w3ccxandnoise144-3-11a.wav This is a 96000 Hz sampling rate wave file made with the array at 119 degrees, receiving on 144 MHz with the WSE receiver centered at 144.250 MHz. W3CCX is at about 144.283 and there is another beacon from New York City that is weaker and centered about 5.3 KHz above W3CCX.

w3ccxandnoise50-3-11a.wav This is a 96000 Hz sampling rate wave file made with the array at 119 degrees, pointing right at W3CCX and the noise source. The receiver is centered on 50.050 MHz. The beacon is at 50.079 or thereabouts. There is a weaker beacon, W3DOG/B, in FM28ei that is at 50.071 MHz. So this recording has a strong signal [W3CCX], a weaker signal [W3DOG/B], and pulse noise.

These files are not interesting in terms of the signals [CW beacons] but the combination of strong and weaker signals with pulse noise allows one to really test the noise blankers and I think the results of that are interesting. Again, for demonstration purposes, I recommend that you do your testing in SSB mode. Make sure you have the calibration files in your Linrad directory. If you get a Linrad message about things not being calibrated across the screen when you go to receive, then the calibration files are not being used and you will not be able to use Linrad's smart blanker and will not see Linrad's full performance.
