The tests I made with exactly the same softwares was with a
Delta 44 on a Pentium IV 2.666 GHz. I see no anomalities.

You say the "U option does not work. Please have a look
at soundboard_init.log. This file should give a hint about
where the setup goes wrong.

I do not expect the device to run properly in case the
U option does not run properly. Surely you can edit the 
parameter file manually, but if the U option fails something 
is wrong.

By the way, I have been using OSS 4.0 for quite some time now
under Debian Etch.
