[linrad] Unable to compile linrad-2.34 on Ubuntu Feisty

I can't get linrad to compile on a relative clean installation of Ubuntu 
Feisty (7.04).

./configure can't find soundcard.h because it doesn't look in a path 
containing `uname -r`.

automake1.9 fails if I try fix configure.in with a complaint about 
missing AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE.

any suggestions?
